An Earful of Fish: Just What the Doctor Ordered?
Unprecedented studies reveal a link between higher intake of fish and reduced risk of hearing loss
by Craig Weatherby

Listen up … medical science just added ears to the list of organs that may benefit from diets rich in fish or their omega-3-rich oils.

That list includes all of the major human organs … heart, arteries, brain, eyes, liver, lungs, kidneys, and skin … plus joints.

But unlike joints and most organs, there hasn’t been much research on omega-3s and hearing health.

Hearing loss is the most common sensory disorder in the United States, affecting about 36 million (one in 10) Americans.

About one in three adults between 65 and 75 suffer aging-related hearing loss – which is usually greater for high-pitched sounds – and almost half of people 75 and older experience substantial hearing loss (NIDOCD 2010).

So research into the auditory effects of omega-3s seems overdue … and the positive findings obtained from ...

Omega-3 DHA Found to Cut Pain … Again
DHA worked in a dose-dependent way to cut pain in mice, and may act on opiate receptors
by Craig Weatherby

Last week, we reported that a Harvard study in mice found pain-reducing effects from compounds that rodents and humans alike produce from omega-3s.

For the details, see “Pain May be Relieved by Omega-3 Byproducts”.

The authors of that Harvard Medical School study suggested that omega-3-derived compounds called resolvins could present a safer new class of potent analgesic drugs.

Hard on the heels of those findings comes news of a supportive Japanese study, also performed in mice (Nakamoto K et al. 2010).

Unlike the earlier study, the Japanese researchers only gave mice DHA, which is one of the two ...

Women’s Depression Tied to Junky Diets
Two studies link diets high in processed foods, sugar, and omega-6 fats to depression in women and ties whole-food diets to a reduced risk
by Craig Weatherby

Earlier this year, British researchers reported that people who ate “junky” diets – such as the average American diet – were more likely to suffer from depression.

The UK team analyzed diet and health data collected from 3,486 men and women (average age 55.6 years).

Based on how often the participants had eaten specific amounts of various foods during the previous year, researchers categorized them as falling into one of two dietary patterns.

A “whole food” diet was defined as one dominated by vegetables, fruits and fish, while a “processed food” diet was marked by high intake of sweets, fried foods, processed meats, refined grains, and high-fat dairy products.
Key Points
  • Women who eat a typical American diet were 52 percent more likely to develop depression and 76 percent more likely to develop anxiety.
  • The risk of depression or anxiety disorders was ...

Five years later, the volunteers completed a questionnaire designed to measure depression symptoms.

The researchers’ analysis indicated that diets dominated by processed foods produced a greater risk of being diagnosed with depression after five years.

Conversely, the recruits whose self-reported diets were highest in whole foods were the least likely to develop signs of depression by

Dr. Sears’ Simple Plan for Healthy Aging
Following his own brush with mortality, “America’s Pediatrician” turned his attention to adult health, and produced a perfect guide to aging in excellent, energetic health
by Craig Weatherby

William Sears, M.D., is a humane, holistic pediatrician, in practice for more than 30 years.

His wife, Martha Sears, R.N., is a registered nurse, childbirth educator, parenting and health consultant ... and mother to their eight children!

Together, they’ve authored more than 30 bestsellers about baby and child care ... and Bill Sears wears his informal title, “America’s Pediatrician”, very lightly.

Now Dr. Sears, again aided by Martha Sears, presents a superior anti-aging program in his Prime-Time Health: A Scientifically Proven Plan for Feeling Young and Living Longer

The seed for this acclaimed book was planted 12 years ago, when Bill Sears was diagnosed with cancer. Like many people, he wanted to take control of his health.

But unlike most, he had the knowledge and research expertise to create a comprehensive, science based program for ...

“Recently I had the privilege of ordering their Rare Reefnet Pacific Pink Salmon, which only

comes around every two years. (They’re no longer available, but any salmon type will work.)

“As a result I wanted to try something that would let the salmon’s delicate flavor shine but ...
